Our History
Following the transition of the Ateneo High School into the Senior High School system in the year 2016, the organizations within the JHS system, including Graficton, transitioned to the Senior High School. Under the supervision of Org Moderator Joselito-Antonio H. Hidalgo and Org Head Rick Pinggol, Grafiction would hold regular workshops and classes. During this year, Grafiction “published” its first ever comic, a political piece, which was then stuck outside the faculty room for everyone to see. Arpee Alejandro succeeded Rick Pinggol as Org Head the following year.
However, in 2017, due to lack of membership, Grafiction was shut down roughly 2 weeks into its life. The remaining members were integrated into Art Guild shortly after.
In 2019, 2 years after ASHS Grafiction’s dissolution, Ivan Sison, former JHS Grafiction Org Head for SY 2017-2018, along with Jiggy Antonio, former JHS Grafiction Org Head for SY 2018-2019, set to restart Grafiction in the Senior High School. Over the summer, they coincidentally met Darti Sebastian, another former JHS Org Head from the arts district at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at UP Town Center and recruited him to assist. Over the summer of 2019, they did the paperwork required to start up the org and got in touch with Mr. Hidalgo. By the start of the school year, they also recruited Cheska Hung, Zeth Medina, Florence Nualla, and Franco Ruiz, who would serve as the Grafiction core members that year. In that school year, Grafiction managed to set up their Facebook page which produced weekly content during the school year, have a field trip to Komikon Grande 2019, and publish their first comic anthology with the theme “KICKASS” on webtoon.
In the school year 2020-2021, with the assistance of Jacob Meimban, Grafiction launched its website, containing the members’s various works and the Grafiction anthologies.
